My Story
My story began as a horse crazy little girl who loved to draw animals and especially horses. When choosing a college major, I was torn between art and the veterinary profession. I chose art, and obtained a BA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois. I worked in Chicago in the corporate world for several years, but still yearned to work with animals.
I then became a veterinarian and started a family, happily immersing myself in those two things for the next 20 years. With no time to spare, I quietly tucked away my creative side. When we moved to Germany for my husband’s job, I was unable to work as a veterinarian because of licensing laws. It was then that I was able to rediscover my passion for painting!
I still live in Germany, and am fortunate to be able to draw from my training in both areas-art and animals. I am currently working with oils, and have recently began experimenting with more abstract work using mixed media and having fun exploring different painting tools. I feel I am still growing and have not yet found my personal style. I would feel honoured for you to come and join me on my journey!
About My Signature
Why is my signature B WILL instead of B HUTCHENS? When I began drawing as a young girl, I signed my drawings with my maiden name, Will. Although I had recently experimented with upper-case letters, I have settled on the lower-cased signature of my youth, ‘b will’, as I feel the smaller case signifies humility. Because my dad is no longer alive, and he has no sons to carry on his name, I am proud to leave my signature in my maiden name, Will, as a tribute to him being a part of my spirit.
